Mount Meru, located in Arusha National Park, Tanzania, is the country’s second-highest mountain, standing at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet). Often overshadowed by Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru offers a breathtaking trekking experience with diverse landscapes, rich wildlife, and fewer crowds. The climb begins at Momella Gate, passing through lush rainforests, where trekkers can spot giraffes, buffaloes, and colobus monkeys. As the trail ascends, the landscape transitions from dense forest to alpine desert, with stunning views of the Ash Cone, an active volcanic crater within the mountain. The final summit push to Socialist Peak provides a challenging yet rewarding experience, offering panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley.
